Aluminum wall exhaust vents are exterior covers for vents installed in a wall, designed to safely release air from inside a building while preventing outside elements like rain, pests, and drafts from entering. They are often made of aluminum for durability, rust resistance, and fire resistance, and typically include features like a backdraft damper and a wire mesh screen. These vents are used for various applications such as bathroom fans, kitchen range hoods, and dryer exhaust.

Key features
  • Material: Constructed from durable and rust-resistant aluminum, which is also non-combustible, providing fire safety.
  • Backdraft damper: A spring-loaded flap that opens to allow air to exit and closes when the appliance is not running to prevent outside air, cold drafts, and back-pressure from entering.
  • Screen: Many models include a wire mesh screen to block pests like birds and rodents from entering the ductwork.
  • Hood/Cover: The exterior hood or cap is designed to keep water and debris out while allowing for maximum airflow when the damper is open.
  • Installation: Vents are installed in a hole cut in the exterior wall, with a connection to the ductwork on the inside.
  • Applications: They are used to vent various appliances and systems, including bathroom exhaust fans, range hoods, and clothes dryers.
How it works
  • When the connected appliance, such as a bathroom fan, is turned on, the airflow pressure from inside the house pushes the backdraft damper open.
  • Exhaust air is then expelled through the vent and out of the building.
  • When the appliance is off, the damper closes, blocking outside air, pests, and weather from coming inside the home through the vent pipe.
