ROOF CAPS for a DRYER EXHAUST SYSTEM
While most dryer exhaust systems are vented through exterior walls, Lambro provides a great alternative option with the low-profile DryerJack roof cap. The updated design of the DryerJack includes a damper’s position and curvature, along with the size of the hood, making it an incredibly efficient option. Laboratory tests have shown that the DryerJack vent cap provides optimal airflow, with only a minimal reduction in airflow. BATHROOM EXHAUST SYSTEM
Bathroom exhaust systems can vent through exterior walls or the roof. Roof caps are an effective option for a bathroom fan’s exhaust when you want to vent your bathroom through the roof. Bathroom fans should always be vented to the exterior of a home. It is required by code in many places.
Make sure your bathroom fans discharges to the outside, not into an attic. In much older homes you may find that the bathroom fan does vent into the attic. However, this practice has stopped because of the resulting damage that can occur. If you discharge moisture from the bathroom directly into your attic it can lead to significant issues including mold growth and wood deterioration, ultimately leading to structural decay. Moisture weakens the wood by slowly destroying individual wood fibers, layer by layer. Attic moisture can also destroy or retard the performance of an attic’s insulation. During the winter months in colder climates, the extra moisture from the bathroom vent will build up frost onto the bottom of the roof sheathing. This ice will eventually melt and start leaking onto the insulation plus the drywall ceiling.
